CHAMPIONS FOR THIRD SPL TITLE IN A ROW

Well done to Gordon Strachan and the Bhoys for completing the fabulous three in a row SPL titles at Tannadice last Thursday evening. The supporters were once again behind the team right from the start of the game. The late Celtic legend Tommy Burns was also well remembered by the supporters in attendance. We would also like to thank the staff at Dundee United FC for the Celtic music they played over the speakers as we awaited the delivery of the SPL trophy for the third season in a row. We now await the draw for the 2008-2009 Champions League to think again about our travels for next season.

THANKS

Our thanks go once again to Celtic’s Chief Executive Peter Lawwell for spending the time with us at our meeting with him last Friday afternoon the day after we uplifted the SPL trophy once again. We would also like to thank Peter for arranging the time to have a our pictures taken with SPL trophy inside Celtic Park, the pictures from that event are now in display on the Affiliation website

Please note a dress code is in operation. All male guests must wear a jacket and tie, no denims are allowed.

Our thanks go to the Board of Celtic Football Club & Rhona Macdonald from Celtic FC for their continuing hospitality with this venture.

As in previous seasons, I will be in touch with the chosen supporters club prior to each game-taking place.

TOMMY BURNS RIP

Another Celtic legend Tommy Burns sadly passed away last Thursday morning. Tommy was very much a big big help to The Affiliation of Registered CSC’S throughout his years with Celtic Football Club.

The fact that he has now gone will take a long long time to sink in with Celtic supporters throughout the world; our thoughts are with Tommy’s wife Rosemary and his family and friends at this very sad time.

This puts everything into perspective.

Tommy Burns RIP you will never walk alone.

TOMMY BURNS

When asked to write about Tommy I classified this as honor.

A man who really knew about Celtic and the supporters who experienced the highs and lows that we were feeling and could identify strongly.

What it really meant following the hoops so he was in a unique position of living the dream.

Playing and managing Celtic FC loved by the fans and no more so by those who stood in the jungle, those who truly adored him singing Tommy twists Tommy turns at the top of the voices which he fully appreciated greatly.

Tommy also understood what it meant to supporters when players attended dances and player of the year functions which he attended more than most.

The one in particular I recall was at the end of 70s being held by the Phil Cole CSC in Coatbridge, in attendance was Tommy and another favorite player was John Doyle.

As you can imagine the place was packed with a fantastic atmosphere in the hall.

When a committee man said to the fans could they go the front door as somebody would like to speak to them they were nearly gone 30 minutes and I thought I better find out what was keeping them so long getting to the front door.

To be honest the guys were no where to be seen, then hearing shouting amid a bit of commotion from behind the pub I found Tommy and John with the trousers rolled up to the knees playing football with a big squad of kids having a brilliant time.

They pair had also used their jackets as goalposts, I think this story tells you lots what it meant to them and the feeling they had about supporters and the affinity they felt about playing for Celtic.

Tommy maintained this throughout his career with the club, no doubt John Doyle likewise but for his sudden and untimely death in 1981.

Tommy was truly inspirational helping countless people and good causes mostly without any publicity or attention and sometimes to the surprise of the recipitants.

Jimmy Savile had nothing on what Tommy could not fix it.

Thanks for the memories Tommy Burns, your spirit, and love of family faith. dignity, honesty humour, and your fantastic left foot will remain as a perpetual memory in the hearts and minds of Celtic supporters for ever more

God Bless Tommy
